On a quick vacation to emerald near ooty, i was astounded at the beauty of the place. It has to be seen to be believed and yet, as one took the roads less travelled to reach this little paradise, the roads of hell had to be conquered first. they were huge craters on the roads and a friendly conversation with our cab driver , reveals that they have six months of peace and "normal" life, because once rains begin their life takes a turn for the worse.pathways can disappear due to landslides, the cold winds and accompanying rains leave them virtually paralysed and homebound.they stock up on just "rice" for three months, from june to august.he says even getting veggies is a miracle and then from october - december life is paralysed due to the severe cold conditions.i looked out the fantastic landscape, the heart stopping beauty of the place and was spellbound by the poignant conversation with my driver as he continued with why life is so difficult and almost impossible to be lived and enjoyed even in this idyllic paradise.
Left me wondering may be paradise is meant to be experienced in short bursts only or may be paradise was not meant to be a dwelling place and hence was not meant for habitation only for brief sojourns for the weary souls. or may be a thing of beauty is really not a joy forever.
